One of the highlights of our New Zealand adventure was The Hooker Valley Track. Even if your view on walking is something you do if you can’t find some sort of motorized transport (as mine WAS..), this is a must do if your in the Aoraki/Mount Cook region and has changed my view on the world of trekking/tramping.
During the 3 hour return trip you’ll experience magnificent mountain ranges, alpine streams, suspension bridges, boardwalks, mirror like glacial lakes and views of Mueller Glacier. The Hooker Valley Track is an easy walk for all ages and fitness levels and there are even toilet facilities halfway.
We started our walk at 6am which was a good move as there was hardly anyone on the trail, apart from two french guys who gave us a good laugh when they jumped in the lake in there underwear to get a photo sitting on an iceberg. Gotta love that adventurous spirit! ?
Check the maps below to see how to get there.
The Hooker Valley CampGrounds cost $23 p/person p/night and are equipped with kitchen, toilet and shower facilities. You can book through the Department of Conservation website. If your not into camping out in the nature there are hotels, although we do suggest booking early as they looked busy.
Hope this helps you on your journey, if so please give us a share, like or comment. It all helps us on ours! ?
